I was in DC on
business and had a few hours to kill one evening. Rather than sitting in my
hotel room and watching TV, I decided it would be more productive to walk
around some monuments and try to get some pictures. Unfortunately, I didn't
have a tripod, so I had to improvise with the shots and try to find a relatively
steady place to rest the camera for several seconds. Usually this turned out
to be parts of abrasive stone monuments, dirt and a parking meter in one case.
I added a few more scratches to the camera but I was happy with a few of the
shots, so it was worth it.
Most of the shots
are of the new WWII memorial which lies next to the reflecting pool between
the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. They did a great job with
the design. Luckily, they were careful to place the new monument so that it
doesn't get in the way of the Washington Monument's reflection in the pool
when viewed from the Lincoln Memorial.
I wish i had a
little more time because I didn't get a chance to shoot the Capitol or the
Lincoln Memorial. The monuments are all very spread out and it would have
added several more miles to the walk. As it was, I didn't get back to the
hotel until midnight. |
